WBL Seminar #2 Reflection Journal

On the 29th of January 2018, I attended the Intro to Web Design Seminar at the Noble Desktop building again for the C.T.E. diploma. I arrived early on that day for the seminar. Like in the previous WBL Seminar Reflection Journal, there was a big screen connected to a computer/laptop that allowed the staff to teach the attendees their lesson plans and seminars. There was sofas in the back of the room, chairs in front of the sofas, the big screen in the front with the computer/laptop, offices to the right, and rooms the left. There was little refreshments this time due to reasons not specified. When attendees showed up, there was fewer people than last time during the After Effects seminar although a significant amount of people were still present at the location. This time, a unique employee unlike the previous employee organized and taught us in the seminar. He specialized in computer programming. The employee spoke about the basics of creating a website and writing code using various programs which I learned from it. I learned that you have to place certain codes in certain orders. I also learned that Adobe Photoshop can be applied to designing images for the web. There were some positive things and negative things at the seminar. The negative things were that the seminar was complex and confusing to understand for beginners like me who knew nothing about the topic. The positive things were that the employee was excellent at articulating and conveying the seminar. It is important in my field of study because it will help me become a better computer programmer. The seminar went smoothly and efficiently. The seats were also comfy to sit on. When the seminar ended, I got up from the sofa and headed back home.

WBL Seminar #1 Reflection Journal

On the 22nd of January 2018, I attended a seminar at Noble Desktop 594 Broadway, Unit 1202, New York, 10012, United States to complete a Workshop Based Learning Requirement (W.B.L.) for my Career and Technical Education (C.T.E.) Diploma. Now at the seminar, there was a good number of attendees that were at the Noble Desktop seminar. There was a big screen connected to a computer that allowed people to see the lesson plan the employees had to teach. There was refreshments and comfy seats which all attendees sat on too. The Noble Desktop employee talked about Intro to After Effects, which was a animation and film program that Adobe brought and tweaked from the Aldus Corporation. The employee talked about how to use the program. how to animate a logo, and the basics to After Effects. I learned that you have to put emphasis into your animations to make them stand out better and more visually appealing. I learned that regular shortcuts that work in other Adobe software do not work in After Effects. I also learned that timing your frames is an important part to animation because it can make your animation convey different meanings based on the timing of the animations/artwork. It is important to study so that you can become a better graphic designer. Now there were some positive things and negative things about the seminar. The positive things were that there was a streamlined and smooth presentation for the attendees at the seminar. There was an exceptional speaker that presented the seminar very well. Furthermore, there were comfy seats to sit on. The negative things at the seminar were that the seminar was slightly dull and complex especially for a person who knew nothing about After Effects. Now after the 2 hour seminar ended, I got up from my seat and went back home.

Lab 15 Reflection Journal (Now in InDesign!)

In this lab I used the program Adobe InDesign to participate in the chapter 8 practice quiz. First off, I opened up Adobe InDesign in the computer. Secondly, I clicked on File from the InDesign bar at the top hand corner. Thirdly, I clicked on New from the File tab to make a new document. A window popped up allowing me to set the InDesign settings of the document. I named the document "Chapter 8 Quiz" and set the settings to default. Next, I scrolled down to the chapter 8 quiz section of the Adobe CC Design Basics v18 PDF. (Link down below ↓ ↓ ↓) Once I got an understanding of the instructions, I went back to Adobe InDesign to do chapter 8 quiz. Then I clicked on the Pen tool from the InDesign toolbox to select the tool and do the first task of chapter 8 quiz. I started at one point at the top left hand corner of the InDesign document. I clicked the mouse button, held the mouse button, dragged the mouse from that clicked point to another point, released the mouse button, dragged my mouse vertically, and clicked on a point to place a curved line. After that, I clicked on the end of the curved line, held my mouse button, dragged my mouse over to the other end of the curved line, and released to make my best attempt at a black banana as it says on the PDF. I clicked on the Direct Selection tool to select the tool. I clicked on the lines of the black banana, held the mouse button, and dragging the mouse to the desired location to try to make the black bananana more realistic/ideal. Now for activity 2 on chapter 8 quiz, I clicked on the Rectangle tool to select the tool for the assignment. I clicked, held, and dragged the mouse from a top left hand corner to a bottom right hand corner. That created a rectangle. I clicked on the Text tool from the InDesign toolbox to select the Text tool. I clicked on one point above the rectangle, held down the mouse button, and dragged the mouse diagonally downwards to a point below the rectangle surrounding the rectangle with a text box. Therefore, I clicked on Window from the Adobe InDesign bar to click on Text Wrap. Now with the rectangle selected, I clicked on Wrap Around Object Shape to have the text wrap around the rectangle. I also set a 0.09 inch offset for the text wrap. Thereafter, I began to type to fill in the text box. I completed activity 2 and initiated the next activity. I clicked on the Text tool from the InDesign toolbox to select the tool. I clicked, held, and dragged the mouse from the top left hand corner to the bottom right hand corner to create a textbox. I typed in 2 paragraphs with headings. I clicked on Window to Styles to Paragraph Styles from the InDesign bar. A window appeared allowing me to make 2 different paragraph styles. I set the 2 different paragraph styles to have different fonts and styles. I highlighted the headings with the mouse and chose 1 paragraph style for it. I highlighted the paragraphs with the other paragraph style. I was complete with activity 3. Lastly, I created a new textbox while the mouse was still selecting the Text tool. I typed in 123 for 4 times. I typed in fido multiple times with the last one having the letters spaced out. I gone to the InDesign bar and clicked on Window. I clicked on Type and Tables to Glyphs from the Window tab. A window popped up allowing me to place the desired characters for the last activity by double clicking on the symbols. I completed the chapter 8 quiz and saved my work. Knowing how to use Adobe InDesign will be beneficial to web designers because it can allow the designer to make texts related projects and stories based on the tools from InDesign.

Project 3 Logos Reflection Journal

In this lab, I used Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 to create 9 logos. First off, I opened up Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 and clicked on File to New to create a new document. Secondly I selected the Ellipse tool from the Adobe Illustrator Toolbox. I created a circle with even proportions and made the circle orange with the color picker panel. Thirdly, I created a triangle with the Polygon tool. I tilted the triangle so that one end pointed towards the center of the circle. I made the triangle white so it looked like a mouth for the circle. I made smaller triangles for teeth and placed it inside the white triangle. Next, I created rectangles that had no stroke and white fill. I placed the rectangles over the ends of the white triangle so that the white triangle looked like a more realistic mouth. Then, I created a snake in a tooth. I used the Rounded Rectangular tool to create the tooth, Polygon tool for the snake's body, Ellipse tool for the snake's eyes and head, Rectangle tool for the tongue, and a white strokeless triangle to make the tongue jagged. After that, I created black cable wires with the Polygon tool. Therefore, I created 2 evenly proportional rounded rectangular shapes one with blue and one with green as controllers. I selected the ellipse tool,  held shift, clicked, and dragged the mouse to make proportional circles as the buttons and control stick tops for the controllers. I clicked on the Rounded Rectangular tool, clicked, held, and dragged the mouse to create the Rounded Rectangles for the control stick. I clicked on the Type tool select it. I typed in the letters W and G for the controllers. I positioned all the shapes together so that my first iconic logo is completed. Now to the second iconic logo. First I clicked on File from the Illustrator bar and clicked on New from the File tab. A window popped up showing the settings of the document and I set it to default settings. I named the new document "Iconic 2" and clicked OK to confirm it. Secondly, I clicked on the Ellipse tool to select it. I held shift, clicked, held, and dragged the mouse diagonally downwards to create a proportional circle. I gone to the color panel to make the circle purple. I clicked on the Polygon tool to select the tool and made a triangle. I had the triangle white, strokeless, and one point pointing to the side of the middle of the purple circle. I made smaller triangles as teeth with a black stroke and white fill, putting them inside the bigger white triangle. I developed the snake's body that was attached to the circle by clicking and dragging the mouse diagonally. I clicked on the direct selection tool to drag the outlines of the polygonal shapes to the shape that I desired. I clicked on the Ellipse tool. I clicked, held shift, held the mouse button, and dragged diagonally to create the snake's head and eyes. I clicked on the Rectangle tool to create a red rectangle for the snake's tongue by clicking and dragging the mouse diagonally. I created rounded rectangles for the controllers by clicking and dragging the mouse from the top left to bottom right. Thirdly, I created smaller rounded rectangles for the control sticks of the controllers. I clicked on the Ellipse tool and developed the buttons and top part of the control stick for the controllers as circles. I clicked on the Rectangular tool to select it. I clicked and dragged diagonally down to create 2 rectangles for the D-Pad. I typed in the letters W and G on the controllers via the Type tool. I made the purple cable wires by using the Polygon tool. I rearranged the shapes to have my 2nd iconic logo. For the 3rd iconic logo, I first made a circle just like the previous logos this time purple. I made another circle that was red for the mouth. I clicked on the Rectangular tool, made the shape strokeless, clicked, and dragged the mouse to make a rectangle that makes the mouth open.  I clicked on the Polygon tool to create small triangles for the teeth and put them inside the red circle. I used the Ellipse tool to create the eyes for the iconic logo with 2 white circles and 2 black circles. I made a purple rectangle connecting the circle by clicking and dragging the mouse while having the Rectangular tool selected. I made a snake inside the existing shape by using the Rectangular tool, Ellipse tool, and the Polygon tool like the previous logo. I created a box using the Rectangular tool and with the letters W and G on it connecting to the shape. I created 2 vertical lines from the box to the controller. I clicked and dragged the mouse while having the Rounded Rectangular tool selected to create the outlines of the controller. I also created the control stick with the Rounded Rectangular tool. I used the Rectangular tool the make the D-pad of the controller. I selected the Ellipse tool and made circles for the buttons of the controller.  I created the necessary adjustments for Iconic Logo 3 and saved the document. I clicked on File to New to create a new document. I clicked on the Pen tool. I clicked and dragged the mouse at certain points of the document to create the word "Welegames". I made the W blue, first E orange, L purple, second E yellow, G green, A ruby red, M light green, third E violet, and S dark green. I saved the document as my 4th logo. I did the same as the previous logo but this time W is red, first E orange, L yellow, second E light green, G green, A light blue, M blue, third E dark blue, and S purple. For the third text logo, I replicated the steps of the previous logo but this time the first E is violet, L is orange, second E is purple, G yellow, A blue, M light green, third E light blue, and S cyan. I saved the document. For the Combination Logos which are the last 3, I used the Pen tool, Direct Selection tool, and the Shape tool. I clicked and dragged the mouse using the Pen tool from one point to the next point to create the W and A. I used the Direct Selection tool to curve the lines of the W and A. I clicked on the Ellipse tool from the Shape tool to create orange E's. I created triangles for the E's to have a mouth and teeth. I clicked on the Rectangular tool to create a 3D image of the L. I used the shape tool to make the controller as the G and the box connecting the G. I used the Pen tool to create the M and the S. Now to the next Combination Logo, I used the Pen tool to create the W and the A. I clicked on the Direct Selection tool to select it and made the lines of the W and A curved. I used the Rectangular tool to create the 3D L. I clicked and dragged the mouse to make the rectangles for the L. I selected the Ellipse tool. I clicked and dragged the mouse to make a circle. I selected the Rounded Rectangular tool. I clicked and dragged the mouse to make a rounded rectangle. I combined the circle and the rounded rectangle together to make a pillar. I created triangles by the Polygon tool and combined them with the pillar to make the M. I made a snake for the S. I selected the Pen tool for the body and the Shape tool for the head like the previous logo. I made the body of the snake slightly darker than the previous S. I made the controller for the G with the Pen tool, Direct Selection tool, and Shape tool. Finally, the 3rd combination logo. I did the same as the previous logo with some minor changes. I had eyes on the E's and the box is above the controller. I saved all of the documents. Knowing how to use Adobe Illustrator CC is important to web designers because it helps you on your career and helps you create artworks that is more time consuming that other types of mediums.

Lab 14 Reflection Journal

In this lab, I used Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 to complete Chapter 4 of Adobe Illustrator in https://s2.jupiterfiles.com/p1/36460875/1/844430766/Adobe_CC_Design_Basics_v18.pdf. First off I opened up Adobe Illustrator CC 2017. Secondly, I opened up the PDF (that's above) to get started on the steps for Chapter 4 Sample Quiz. Thirdly, I clicked the Text Tool on Adobe Illustrator CC 2017's toolbox. Next, I clicked the mouse button, held the mouse button, and dragged the mouse pointer from the top left corner of a point to the bottom right hand corner of a point. I gone to the top hand corner of Adobe Illustrator and clicked on Character next to the font selection tab. The Character tab opened up allowing me to adjust the settings of the text. I had set the text settings to bold text, 30 point sans-serif, tracked to -100, and scaled horizontally to 200 percent. I typed in my word and clicked outside the box to confirm it. Then I created a new textbox I reset the settings back to default. I changed the text type to Times New Roman. I typed in my word. I changed the word color to grey by double clicking on the color panel. I kerned only two of the letters by pressing spacebar in between a part of the word and typing in my number of spacing between letters from the character panel. After that, I made a new textbox. I resetted the kerning to 0. This time I made two 60 point letters which I converted to outlines. I converted the outlines by clicking on No Stroke of the Fill of the color panel section and black for the outlines on the other side of the panel section.I typed in my letters. I changed one letter shape by dragging the points. Therefore, I copied the letters from the previous step and combined them into one shape using the pathfinder panel. I clicked unite/add from the pathfinder panel to combine the letters into one shape. Lastly, I made a wavy path by clicking on the Pen tool, clicking on one point, holding the mouse button, and dragging the line to another end. I dragged the mouse vertically to create a curve for the pen line. I clicked on the text tool and from that bar, I clicked on Type On A Path Tool to type my words on the pen line. I clicked on the line and typed in my words. finally I kerned the letters so that they are evenly spaced. Knowing how to use Adobe Illustrator and Text Tool is beneficial for web designers because it allows web designers to convey a story or article for the reader.
