On May 11, 2019 I went to the Emoticon event in Manhattan, New York City. I rode a train to get to the event. Once there, I signed in to the registry. Next, I had set up my presentation with my billboard and website that my teammate and I made. The billboard and the website on the laptop both had topics about equality, equity, justice, and fairness. After I had set up my presentation, I got some lunch from the event and ate for a few minutes. Then, I listened to some announcements/speeches made by the hosts of the Emoticon event and participated in some activities created by the hosts of the event. For example, I was in a team and had to help build a bridge from art supplies. We weren't that successful though. Next I presented my project to people and discussed about what my project represents. I also discussed how my project hopes to spark change and how to fix some of society's grueling issues. After the presentations, I got to network with a game developer who makes games. Afterwards, I participated in a rock-paper-scissors tourney in which I got an amazing win streak because the hosts needed to waste some time until the prizes were brought to them. After that, I eagerly hoped and waited for a prize for my presentation. Unfortunately, I didn't get one. However, my classmates did get a prize. After the event, I went home to relax. At the Emoticon, I learned that you need to speak fluently to convey a message clearly. I also learned that you could make games for a living by yourself as a freelancer even though it is difficult to do. Knowing how to use power skills like fluent speech and networking can help you as a web designer to communicate ideas and gain more opportunities in your career.
